SOCIAL SKILLS TRAINING

At CTA, we offer a variety of skill-building services with a focus on strengthening emerging skills and teaching new skills to children and youth. Social skills training involves following a guided curriculum to teach a set of common goals in which students will be working towards.

Parents and families will be provided with a written schedule detailing lesson goals, teaching strategies and visual supports to ensure skills are transferred to home and school environments.

Through group training students can expect to expand their skill development in any of the following areas:

• Relationship Building
• Self-Regulation
• Social Awareness
• Problem-Solving
• Teenage Years: Hygiene, Puberty, Dating
• Independent Living Skills

Social skills training typically involves teaching an identified set of skills within a small group setting. 

The foundation of each group is constructed on evidence-based strategies and research on improving social competencies and adaptive functioning.

Social skills training focuses on breaking down complex skills into more manageable sequences to allow for positive learning outcomes. 

All social skills groups are led by qualified facilitators and are available to provide parent coaching on their child or youth's social skills group.

The length of each social skill group will vary and be dependent upon the skill being taught. However, most groups run for a minimum of 6 weeks in length.
